5Saved my door jamb from total destructionJul 20, 2009

I find it shocking that many storm door manufacturers don't include safety chains or even make them available as an accessory. My door jamb was badly damaged after a gust of wind tore the door from my grasp and flung my storm door open past the limit. No matter how careful you are, sooner or later this will happen to you if you have a storm door that catches high winds.

After I repaired the door frame I was determined to never let it happen again. I bought and installed this chain on my metal Larson storm door. You can still install it if you have a closer at the top of the door.

A few weeks later the wind caught the door again but the chain stopped it and saved my door frame. I highly recommend it. A cheap investment with a huge return.
