2A Little Piece of Junk.Feb 01, 2009
By Gary Peterson
I've had this wonderful little peeler for at least a couple decades. I can't recall where I got it and it has no brand imprinted on it. It still works fine and is still very sharp. The problem is that it has become somewhat rusty and badly stained and looks bad with the other tools in the kitchen drawer. So, my wife and I were visiting our local Ace Hardware and noticed this Ekco Peeler. It was bright, shiny and new and we were delighted to find another to replace our aging peeler.

Our old peeler is almost identical to the new Ekco model, except in a few details. I'd say they probably came out of the same factory except that the old one has "Made in the USA" stamped on it. I threw away the new package, but I suspect it would have "Made in China" on it.

Well, fortunately, we didn't toss the old peeler. It's far superior to the new one. It's far sharper and will peel potatoes, carrots and what not all far faster and with less effort. Go figure. This new one is a little piece of junk compared with our old rusted and badly stained peeler. If we ever throw one away, it will be this Ekco model.

2Not like they used to be.Jan 09, 2012
By LG
Have used the Ekco peelers in the past. These kind of peelers are hard to find.
So was excited to find these. But sorry to say, they are not like the old ones. I could not get them to peel. Would not recommend.

3It's just not the sameDec 25, 2011
By Steven Aronoff
I bought a new EKCO peeler and it's just not the same as the old one. With my old one I would slice a carrot and the peel strips would fly off in the direction I wanted. This is no longer the case. The new peeler sticks; the old one never did. I have to use much more pressure with the new one and it digs too deeply when I peel.
I've tried other peelers and the EKCO is better than them, but that's not saying much.
Why can't anyone make a decent peeler anymore!? It's really frustrating, especially when you know how simple the design is.
[Let me take his opportunity to diss Good Grips kitchen tools. I'm sure they're great for people who have difficulty using the utensils, and they are well off buying them. But I don't like them much because I find the big handles cumbersome, and I have big hands. Kitchen utensils should be built for a light touch. Good Grips doesn't really permit this. My gripe isn't so much that Good Grips aren't good for the right customers, but really in that they are often the only choice available in many kitchen stores. Maybe Good Grips should sell another line, Bad Grips. I'm sure they'd make a lot of money off me.]

1Inherently DefectiveOct 30, 2010
By Harry
Looks just like the one Mom used to have that worked great year after year. But something is not the same. The design of this peeler is defective and does not work. Its design allows the peeler blade to push into the hole of the handle and wedge itself there. The peeler blade no longer swivels. The blade then no longer follows the contours of what you are peeling and it only scrapes off the high points.

It does not peel, it does not work.
