I received the product as described. Although I did read the reviews stating that it won't stay flat, I figured for the price, it wouldn't hurt to try out a technique.

This is what I did to make it flat:
- Remove strip from box, unroll, then roll it back in the opposite direction.
- Put strip back into box and leave it in your car (or really hot place) for 3-4 hours.
- Bring it back indoors into a cool place, unroll it, and lay it flat with objects on top.

Once it cools, it'll stay flat. I didn't have to use the tape but I'm using it over carpet.

Like another reviewer, I boiled the coiled up protector and then laid in out flat. Boiling took care of both the plastic smell and coiling. I laid it out flat and have had no problems with the ends curling up. A heavy, very sharp knife (like a meat cleaver) would make a much cleaner cut (if you need to cut it down like I did) than the dull scissors I used. Meets all my needs except it scuffs way too easily. Not a big deal, but does make it look worn in it's first week of light use.

It will not stay flat on the floor. The supplied tape does not adhere to the bottom of the plastic cord protector, and it pops up off the floor.

So I am left with a piece of tape stuck to my floor collecting dirt, while the cord protector is loose and you can easily catch your foot on it. I'm very dissatisified with this.

As other reviewers have noted, the item is shipped tightly coiled, and I expended a good bit of effort getting it straightened out by reverse-coiling it and flattening it with weights. However, the end which was in the center of the coil will not straighten out despite my best efforts.

Because the tape does not adhere well to the plastic, it is virtually impossible to get this thing to stay flat on the floor.

It arrived super curled and wouldn't lay flat. Just like others reviewers have mentioned, I reverse curled and threw it in a pot of boiling water for about 5 minutes. When I took it out and placed it on the floor is was perfectly flat and stayed that way. It was easy to do and worked like a charm.

for those who are skeptical on buying this due to not laying flat. Just boil it in hot water and it'll lay flat for the rest of it's life.
