5Very Effective for Rough CuttingNov 11, 2005

This is an excellent saw for cutting lumber and other thick wood, as well as OSB. It cuts cleanly, smoothly and fast, with a surprisingly narrow kerf. Excellent for framing and other construction if you can't get access to your circular saw, and it's so fast it may save you time over the power tools. It cuts a bit too roughly for any finish work, which is no suprise.

The Vaughan BS333C Bear Saw is strong, efficient, lightweight and easy to carry in a backpack. Its extra-sharp, aggressive teeth make starting undercuts on downed logs quick and easy. I have been able to crosscut large, dead logs up to 15 inches diameter with no problems. The removable handle can be mounted upside-down which is handy for cutting logs that are flush with the ground as the handle is then up in the air, not scraping against the ground and impeding the cut. I bought two Bear Saws and reversed the handle on one of them so I would always have that orientation at the ready even in cold, snowy conditions when stiff fingers aren't very dextrous. My neighbor recommended this saw and let me borrow his before I ordered mine. I used his for just one day and was convinced that this was the saw for my needs.

I've had one of these for many years and came back to buy another. Several teeth are now broken since I accidentally hit a couple rocks while sawing on the ground. I've cut everything from limbs in the yard to trails around my property. Super fast cutting with little effort.

Ten years ago I picked up two different Vaughan Bear Saws that Sears was clearing out at a ridiculously low price. What a find! As a smaller stature woman, I struggle with regular saws but not with these. They zip through just about any job I have. And I do mean ZIP. Since they cut on the pull rather than the push, the cuts are quick and precise. I use the BS333C Coarse blade saw for sawing off 1-5 inch limbs of trees and just about any outdoor job. I have used the BS265M Fine Blade Saw for cutting trim, studs, and just about anything inside that needs a more refined touch. I have loaned these saws to others who, after using, immediately ask where they can get them. These saws are definitely one of my all time favorite tools. You will not be disappointed.
