5Simply the best and helped us remove (yes, remove) Crown molding .. why we did and how the bar helpedJun 15, 2008

Yes, I DO know that crown molding not only can help add character to a room but enhance its value. However, there are times when the molding has to be removed, if only temporarily, due to water damage, problems under the molding or room renovations.

That is when the Vaughan Superbar can be a great help. While I have a step by step tutorial about how to remove crown molding on my profile page, this particular Superbar can be a main asset in helping you to gently pry away that molding while doing little to no damage to your drywall. There can be complicating factors that even the best pry bar won't solve: molding glued to the wall with gorilla glue (yes, I've encountered this in home rehabs) or times when things are attached in a way when you have to bring in extra tools, including power tools.

However, when removing crown molding, this is a super tool to have on hand. I'd also recommend a good utility knife, dropcloths, a hammer and some other items (blocks to place between molding and wall, when you get that far).

The bar makes an excellent nail puller, even if the nails are wedged tightly into a deck. You'll find a ton of uses for this and the heft of it is pleasing, neither too light or too heavy. Of course, in a pinch, you could knock out a mugger with it, too...but lets hope you don't have to do that!

I had a competitors bar, commonly found and black in color. Although quite happy with the other one, someone left this at my house following a flood demolition and I couldn't find the owner. Interestingly, another bar was also left behind, a yellow one. I had a chance to compare all three. The Superbar is superior. It is more rigid and has a better curve design which prevents pulled nails from becoming projectiles, getting lost in your grass. The rigidity is also a plus when removing molding. Also, the design of the (3) nail pulling slots is such that it can grip nails that have minimal heads remaining; not so with the others. Although I still have the other 2 bars, this is the one I will always grab to use. It definitely is an improvement over the two that I have.

This is the best pry bar around. The curve is just right for pulling, the tip is thin enough to get in between things, and the metal itself is strong enough to really push on without deflecting. They also make a longer one that is just as good if you need more leverage.

This is a great crow bar...just as described. I am glad that I opted for this size. Anything bigger would be hard to store and anything smaller wouldn't have as great of leverage. I would buy again.

My wife and I are building a new hen house using re-claimed pallets.Some of the material was very old and brittle.Pulling the slats from the pallet frame without destroying them proved to be quite tricky.I bought the vaughan pry bar and it worked fantastic.Its sharp edges and thin profile sure did the trick.you can pull,pry or pound and it works great.With all the lumber I re-claimed from the pallets,the vaughan pry bar paid for itself in just one project.(Fresh eggs anyone?)
