I recently got serious about weight loss and took the advice to get a food scale. I bought this one first since it was cheap. It is very good for measuring smaller sizes of fruit, snacks, small diet-sized pieces of meat etc. It is not the best for larger items and was not designed for this.

It has a square container you can put items in to measure. The container has a bottom fitted to the scale's square top to aid in balancing the filled container on the scale. The lid snaps in place, so it can double as a small snack/fruit lunch container, but the lid is not quite as tight as a real lunch box. The scale will fit inside, but will compress the movable scale down to fit.

Place the container on the scale and turn the knob on the back to adjust the scale back to zero. This will take away the weight of the container itself and then just measure what you place into it.

The scale is very small and compact, will easily tuck away if you are low on counter space. It does have a somewhat flimsy feel and I don't think it will take a lot of abuse, but for the money you can't go wrong for measuring smaller amounts.

This scale is compact, easy to store, and easy to use! Ignore others who say it's not calibrated correctly, they don't know how a scale works. There is a little dial on the back to adjust the needle to zero once the bin is on top. I love being able to measure in grams and ounces when the need arises.

I bought this scale because the reviews were high and I was not disappointed. If all you need is to weigh something, it does everything a battery powered scale does and as fast as scales costing > 4x more, and with nearly no maintenance. The main disadvantage is if you like to tare your recipes: you can't just keep adding ingredients and zero out the scale, then add more. You'll have to manually add the extra weight or empty the bowl after each load. Given how small the container is, tare really won't make sense making even meals for individuals. Note scales of these types can last forever; I have a cheapie spring postage scale that is almost 20 years old and working, that cost me $1 back then.

Pros
Accurate to 1 gm, minimum resolution
Easy to clean
Fast responding
Large easy to read digits, in gm and oz
Plastic bowl doubles as the scale's case
Bowl is dishwasher safe
Compact size, about as tall as a coke can, and 1.5x thicker

Cons
The plastic is fairly thin and cheapie feeling. This scale may not take a hard drop and survive.
White color is easy to dirty.

This scale is nearly, or probably, identical to a similar scale sold by Sears and by Salter Salter 021WHDR Mechanical Diet Scale White, 1-Pound at the very least.

I bought this scale because I needed something small to take with me while I'm traveling, and I absolutely love it! It's accurate and small so I can easily fit it in my purse or lunchbox. The dish that you weight the food in also comes with a lid, perfect for taking things on the go and the actual scale part fits inside of it's easy to store. There's a black knob on the back which can be used to calibrate the scale and set it to zero. Love this product!
