5Glad I didn't Listen to Other ReviewsMar 15, 2008
By B. Panzer
My husband had this on his wish list and based on the other reviews I almost didn't order it for him. Others said birds couldn't get seeds out and didn't use the feeder. We have lots of birds using this feeder at all times and I once counted 10 birds on it at the same time. Some cling to the wires and others sit on the perch to eat. The top has kept the snow and rain off of it and it holds a ton of seeds at one time (not filling it as much). Also the squirels have yet to destroy it unlike many other feeders we have had. I would definately buy this one again.

4a good feeder at a good price.Dec 17, 2006

This feeder works very well for us -- it holds sunflower and safflower seeds without spilling, and the cardinals, finches, titmice, and chickadees love it. (Squirrels can also get onto it easily, but they stay away when it's filled with safflower.) It holds a good bit of seed, so it doesn't have to be refilled very often. I'm very pleased.

5Great Bird Feeder!Feb 03, 2008
By Georgette
Wrote another review for same bird feeder, seems this item is listed twice on Amazon. Anyway, the birds really love it. I feed them sunflower hearts, sometimes mixed in with Nyger seeds - you should see them flock to this feeder! This is the most visited feeder I have. Have not seen any cardinals on this feeder, maybe too busy for them? Will buy a couple more of these feeders. Highly recommend it.

5Outstanding feeder WITH THE RIGHT SEEDS!!!!!Jul 22, 2009
By Husker Du "Pondering"
I love this feeder. Primarily because it has controlled (not ended) the squirrel and racoon problems that plague plastic and wooden feeders, which the squirrels manage to get all the seed out of at once and the racoons manage to totally destroy. These critters are still getting into the feeder (nothing short of a 12g will stop them) but they can only get a small amount of seed at a time, so I say they're welcome to share.

It's heavy, well contructed and well finished. the racoons can't lift and shake it and can't tear it open.

The reviewer who complained that the birds can't get to the seeds might be using the larger striped sunflower seeds. I use black oil sunflower seeds which all the birds around here (central Texas) love, and they are a bit smaller than the striped. When the feeder gets low I notice the seeds don't fall out onto the tray as they need the weight of a full load of seeds to push them out. But the birds still peck them out and the waste has been cut down tremendously from other types of feeders. The illustration looks like black oil seeds. If only larger seeds were available I think a few cuts with some tin snips would make a good field alteration.

Like to make one suggestion to the manufacturer. I would prefer a white, rather than the Cardinal Red finish, because the birds would contrast and be easier to watch. They do blend into the red, but the finish is such good quality I won't consider a white spray job.

Highly recommended, just use the right seeds.

5Excellent feederDec 02, 2009
By Bird & garden advocate
I've tried many different feeders and this is one of the best . . . clinging birds love it, cardinals feed from it, blue jays and black birds leave it alone, there's minimal wasted seed, and it's attractive. I particularly like having red in the garden in winter. In my yard, it's hanging from a squirrel proof pole, and I use only black oil sunflower seeds. I refill it about every 2-1/2 to 3 weeks.
