1plastic junkOct 20, 2000

Pins would not even hold 1/4" thick Baseboard trimm. Plastic sides move when you are sawing. Went and bought wood box. The Saw is a good hand saw.

2Very frustrating to useJan 15, 2001
By Dan Crevier
I bought one of these when I installed Pergo in my house to do the trim. It was very frustrating to use. First off, it's very hard to use if you are just placing it on the ground. Although it's hard to tell from the picture, it's got an L shaped base that's meant to mount on a bench. If you use it on the floor, the cutting surface is at an angle. Also, I found I frequently ended up cutting into the plastic of the box. The wallbase I was using was too tall to fit in the box upright, so I had to do the 45 degree cuts using face cuts. The saw would really squeek on these cuts. I ended up buying a better Craftsman miter saw, and only wish I'd done so sooner.

This miter box might be alright if you just have to do a few cuts and want to save money, but if you have to do any significant amount of money, save yourself the frustration and spend your money on something better.

1Almost completely uselessOct 22, 2004

Too small to use for tall baseboard or crown molding. The plastic bends during sawing and the saw cuts into the plastic. The saw is so short that you can only move it back and forth about 2 cm, so each cut takes forever to make. This is a total piece of trash, and will just cause you to go out and spend more money on something that actually works.

4BargainDec 04, 2003
By Dave "Dave C."
The Stanley 20-600 mitre box and saw is a good deal for the price. I've used mine for lightweight work on molding trim pieces and baseboard quarter-rounds. I found this product was easy to use and got the job done. The mitre box has a lip on the bottom of one edge so you can brace it against the edge of a table, keeping it from sliding away from you. The included cams allow you to clamp your piece into place. I found that the cams alone were not sufficient to hold the small trim pieces I was working on, but the combination of my free hand and the cams made keeping the pieces steady a breeze.

The included back saw is not a masterpiece of a hand tool, but seems more than adequate for light duty use. The 20-600 features a clever design that prohibits the saw blade from making contact with the base of the mitre box, so you can saw completely through your target piece without cutting into the plastic base.

4Useful and CheapJul 10, 2008
By Richard Thornhill "Hudson's Bay Man"
I have many, many saws and several mitre boxes. Although this my least expensive one I find I use this nifty little combination quite frequently.
No, I wouldn't use it for cabinet work, but when I need to do a quick job I find the cam operated clamps and the lip that holds it against the edge of a workbench a real boon. I used it this afternoon while building a chicken coop. I'd buy it for the cams alone and am thinking it might be worth drilling holes in the base of a better quality wood constructed box to use these useful little chaps. On the downside it is flimsy and there is too much slop for a high degree of accuracy, but for the money it really has its uses. Weigh up what for you want to use it; read some of the other reviews and you may decide it's for you!
