3Servicable - for a plastic toolboxFeb 27, 2012

I bought one of these when my truck was broken into and my carry-around tool box was stolen. My old grey steel Craftsman toolbox that I had carried for decades was gone. Like losing an old friend. My carry-around tool kit has always been made up of serviceable but cheap tools. In case they got lost or mislaid - No great loss. (My pro tools are in my roll-around.) But to lose an entire box was something else again.

I'm a mechanic of the old school. A plastic box just doesn't feel right. They inherently won't stand up to the abuse of everyday use. Fine for the people who keep a toolbox in the garage but not durable enough to tote around everywhere. But large tote-able steel boxes are getting pretty hard to find. So I found this at a local home improvement store. It is large. I'll give it that. And the extra storage compartments in the lid are great for little items like electrical connectors, replacement blades, etc. But the first time I tried to carry it, fully loaded with tools, (about 75 lbs) the handle came off the lid. And then someone broke into it by simply cutting through the plastic lock hasp with a pair of diagonal cutters. The box didn't even slow em down. Fortunately they decided the tools in the box weren't worth stealing.

Final thought - If you're looking for a garage toolbox, this one will work fine Just don't expect to load it up with tools & carry it around. If you're a pro, looking for a tote box on the job, don't buy this, or any other plastic box.
