This is a good quality universal mailbox flag - not "flimsy" as another reviewer posted. I bought it to replace the flag from my mailbox after some idiot backed into it. The installation was quite simple although I did have to drill 3 holes to hold the base piece.

I'm sure if you live in warm climate, won't matter if replacement flag is metal or plastic. Living in Northeast, plastic won't do. First hit by snowplow pushing 3ft snow/slush will shatter it. Was not aware this flag was plastic (as are all the parts that come with it) until it arrived. The picture is misleading as it looks heavy duty, when in fact it is flimsy plastic, made in China. Luckily I also bought one from Fulton Corp for about same price, which is made in USA and is metal.

I ordered two of these.

This was an exact replacement for my OEM mailbox flag. It comes with a plastic shaft (the part that my son broke while mowing the grass) and a bushing so you can use your own screw. After recieving this I could have used just the bushing and the other orignal flag, but went ahead and put the new flag cause I was too lazt to go look in garage for a screw and nut.

For a friends mailbox we will have to drill some holes to accomodate this flag's mounting cover tabs (the rectangular black piece has some rounded tabs that keep it oriented square on the mailbox. A template for the tabs hole pattern is on the backside of packaging, so not a problem.

I bought two of these - mainly because I live where we have 3 mail boxes up on a post that we share, and I'd noticed my neighbor's flag had broken and mine had broken so ... what's a good neighbor to do? I was tired of seeing them try to hold up their old flag with duct tape.

The directions on the thing seemed overly complicated - it was like reading something made in Japan that someone tried to translate into English and it was almost more confusing than it needed to be. In the end it was really simple to install just by matching it up to the spots already on the mailboxes and sliding the little plastic thing over the 'bolt' that came with it.

However, as other people have said, it seems very flimsy. I was almost afraid I was going to break it taking it out of the packaging. It's shrink wrapped so you need to open it carefully in the first place just to avoid losing any of the parts.

The 'notches' on the flag to make it stay either up or down don't seem very firm. I'm thinking I should have probably gone with something made of metal ... either way this seems like something I should have been able to buy at the dollar store ... and 2 for that dollar for that matter.

I just can't wait for the next time someone sticks a flyer or a catalog on it (to bypass the postal laws) and the stupid thing breaks off again.

I am pretty handy, so eventually I got this thing mounted. The instructions assume that you have one of two types of mountings and apparently there are more since neither was mine. All is well that end well though.
