3this is semi-gloss, not glossNov 04, 2009

This is the semi-gloss Varathane. Semi-gloss does not adhere as well to polymer clay as the gloss version. According to a number of experts, there is something in the satin and semi-gloss polyurethane that interferes with it binding with the clay. Also, this product is the 1/2 pint size. That information is missing from the product description. I cannot buy Varathane gloss anywhere near where I live and I was really hoping to buy it here. Please start selling the gloss water-based Varathane in liquid!

After using other polyurethane products that peeled off my polymer clay jewelry, I thankfully found out about this product recommended by some expert polymer clay artists. So far so good regarding my jewelry. Also, I really appreciate being able to buy the small can. Only store in my area that sells this, sells it in 1 gallon cans only (way too much for my needs!).

I have been using this product with my polymer clay now for six months. At first, when I read one of the reviews mentioning this was a Semi-gloss and doesn't adhere well to polymer clay, I became worried that I might find this to be an issue with my crafts as well.

I am not *sure* exactly what the other crafter is using for clay--perhaps it isn't polymer but something else?-- but I can say for sure that in the last six months I have had *NO* issues with this sticking to my polymer clay creations! In fact, compared to a brand name glaze I had? A glaze made by a company that also makes polymer clay? This was A DREAM to use to coat my clay. No bubbles, no milkiness, no yellowing!!!<---This was the most important to me, and the gloss was *just* right.

I have nothing but good experiences with this product on both Sculpey brand polymer clay, and Micheal's store brand polymer clay. I would recommend this to my fellow poly clay artists.

I was worried that this product would be a quart of semi-gloss Varathane like in the picture, but that is not the case. I double checked on the Varathane website for this product, and the number in this name is the same as the product ID of the half-pint gloss (#200061) on the official site.

My order came in this morning, and it is, indeed, a half-pint gloss can of water-based polyurethane. For all of you crafters who are hesitant on ordering this product, yes, it most likely is what you're looking for, so do not worry. :)

1Very Disappointed - Seller Needs to Upgrade Product DescriptionMar 18, 2010

Since the seller doesn't offer a detailed written description of the product , I thought the picture defined what I was ordering- which is a quart of semi-gloss. But oh, no. I received a HALF-PINT of GLOSS, instead. A half-pint isn't enough for my project. And I didn't want full gloss at all. So I checked the measurements listed and the seller says the product is 4" X 4". NO! It's 3" tall!!

I'm sorry that I paid almost $14 for a half-pint of a finish that I don't want. It doesn't pay to return it.

My advice is to buy a product from a seller who has a good, detailed description of what's being sold. Or you could email this seller to request more details but customers shouldn't have to go to the trouble of asking for basic product information; it should be made available up front.

Buyer beware!
