great little invention!Jul 08, 2007

OK - I understand the concerns some of the reviewers have for these magnificent little gadgets. That's because they're not using them for what they were intended! Here's the problem: if all you need is a couple of trays to keep in your freezer all the time for making ice, then there is no reason to use these. Just use regular trays that stack normally. These are for something else altogether! What's special about these trays is that if you fill them with something you want to freeze, they stack one way, with plenty of room for the frozen liquid, but if you are just storing them between uses they stack differently, one inside the next! This is absolutely fantastic, *if you use them from time to time*. That's because they use up very little space in a cabinet, when they are stored away! I make soup broth from scratch, strain it, then freeze it in ice cube trays, then save the frozen cubes in freezer bags, ready to use when I cook. This is something that every serious cook does routinely. (I am not a serious cook, but I cook easily, and fairly often from scratch) What this means is that I need lots of ice cube trays, but only for a couple of days at a time, then I store the clean trays in a cabinet. Before I had these little gems I used to need a huge amount of space just to store trays that I would only use for freezing stock! Now they all fit so well in a neat stack! This is really a beautiful and simple idea. Of course, you can use these to freeze anything else, if what you need is to freeze a large amount, then store the cubes in bags in the freezer and store the trays in a cabinet. Some examples: fruit juice; sauces or creams that take time to make, many freeze well, so you can make a large amount once, freeze it and have a little at a time later.

Cheap Tray...Works Great!Jul 15, 2008
By Jamie Rahm Bought this because I couldn't find the other Rubbermaid ice cube tray that was so well recommended here on Amazon. Couldn't be happier with them. The ice pops right out with no problem. (Our other ice cube trays...you had to really bang on them to get them out.)

Poor purchase - cracks after a few monthsJul 29, 2009
By G. Hearn When I first purchased a set of these trays a few months ago I thought they were great. . . . but now they have cracks in the center, and so I have to replace them again. So if they only last a few months I don't think they were a good purchase.

These will NOT last.Oct 04, 2010
By C. Davis I live alone and use very little ice. Despite this, my trays completely cracked apart within less than a year of use.
Unlike other reviewers, I had no trouble getting them to stack and *liked* the thinner plastic initially because the ice cubes came out a little more easily for me--I have a joint disorder and my hands are not very strong. Once the plastic started to crack, though, it becomes impossible to get the cubes out other than by running warm water over them.
These are now recycling bin material, and I'm only buying sturdier trays from here on out.

Disappointment!Jul 07, 2010

Beware! I cannot count the number of years I've relied on RUBBERMAID icetrays, there have never been any better. However, the RUBBERMAID trays purchased here are so beneath any preious RUBBERMAID design standard, manufacturing standard and overall lack of quality as to leave me shocked. They "fit" awkwardly into one another and stacking more than 2-3 is a waste, they neither sit well together nor balance, the frozen trays merely stick together, almost impossible to separste without using or losing at least one entire tray of ice. What's worse, RUBBERMAID icetray's famous ability to insure that almost every ice cube pops out quickly, easily and evenly is now a total myth. I used the 6 RUBBERMAID ice trays I purchased (I've always kept 6 RUBBERMAID ice trays in my freezer, even with an automatic ice maker, they have always been a handy dandy back-up) on Amazon.com for about one month, and finally, frustrated and totally annoyed, I deposited them the trash (yes, I used the plastic recycle bag in hope that they'll eventually become something that's actually useful).
This is absolutely NOT the fault of the seller, who made certain that my well-packed order was delivered quickly. This is certainly NOT The fault of Amazon.com.
This is totally the fault of everyone at RUBBERMAID, from the bottom of the pyramid to whoever resides on the big cushy executive chair at the tiptop of their organixation. It clearly shows their lack of care and concern with both their ioconic product line and their customers, but also their inability at maintaianing any sort of design or manuacturing control, once their hallmark. So, for now and the foreseeaable future, absolutely NO MORE RUBBERMAID ICETRAYS for me, and should any other rethinking of classic RUBBERMAID products come my way, they'll get more than just the once quick and easy glance, each RUBBERNAID product need a serious double-take. I always bought RUBBERMAID products with complete impunity, alas, no more!
