5Simple, effective product.Feb 27, 2008

Richard Kell is known for the exacting quality of his tools and the Brass Bevel Gage is no exception. Simply slide a beveled chisel, spokeshave blade, plate iron, or other sharp beveled blade into the gage and read the angle. No moving parts and a hole for hanging or key chain. A very good product and a very good price.

Couldn't get much simpler than this, you put the chisel or whatever in the gauge, if there is no light coming through you've found the bevel.
Has a keychain attachment.
Assuming the bevels are accurate (they seem to be) there's not a whole lot else to this. Use it when you're sharpening a chisel and you're not sure if the bevel is 25 or 30 or??, so you don't set your bevel gauge to the wrong position and spend time changing a bevel you like in error.
If anyone has any other uses for this, I'd like to know what they are! NO! NOT A CAN OPENER!

This Richard Kell bevel gauge is very high quality. It is small but thick so there is no chance of accidentally bending it. Angles are clearly marker. I like this gauge much better than the Veritas gauge. This gauge has more angles and seems to be better made. If you use wood chisels or planes, you without a doubt need one of these.

Are you kidding me!? This thing is gorgeous. I want to get a gold chain and hang it around my neck, not throw it in my toolbox!

I spent months looking for a chisel gauge and couldn't find one. One of the clerks in a popular hardware store didn't even know what I was talking about. He said most folks just throw the tool away and get a new one when it gets dull. (Finding a grinding wheel dresser was the same thing)

I balked at the price of this gauge ... plus shipping too ... I thought. Heck, its work the price just to hold this gem! Anyway, not sure if I want to take a chance on scratching it, but a good tool is to be used, right.

The picture on the site makes it look huge. In real life mine is about 1 7/8" in diameter. It's kind of fun to check it out at Richard Kell's website([...]) too.
