Good expansion joint for concrete work...Sep 28, 2009

Reflectix #EXPO4050 4"x50' Expansion Joint

The 4" wide joint material has a slit 2/3 of the way through at the 3 ½" wide mark; so, if you need a 3 ½" expansion joint (instead of 4"), it's easy to neatly remove the extra ½". Use scissors or a utility knife.

The ½" thick black foam has an "open cell" construction and is extremely light. It's easy to fit along the edge of any concrete form, or if needed, on a straight joint, hold it in place during the first few shovels-full of wet concrete is poured in. Some wet concrete will fill the open cells at the top of the foam joint during the pour or troweling. After the concrete hardened, nearly all of the dried concrete was removed from the foam with a vacuum cleaner, with no damage to the expansion joint.

Reflectix is a whole lot better than impregnated asphalt joints sold by many local suppliers. That stuff disintegrates after a few years, leaving a ½" air gap where it used to be.
