Low cost peace of mind.Jun 08, 2010

After a recent robbery, I purchase the Prime Line Keyed Patio Door Lock as added security for my patio slider door, even though this door was not the thieves point of entry/exit. This lock can be used on sliders and swing-type patio doors, internal or exterior, according to the manufacturer. The lock is easily installed with phillips screw driver, a drill and a couple of different sized drill bits. I replaced the 3 provided 3/8" screws with 2" decking screws to ensure the lock is securely fastened to the inside of the door frame. The frame of my door is wide, so the 2" screw contacting the glass wasn't an issue. The operation of the key lock is smooth and, in the locked position, the hardended steel security bolt goes deep into the door framing, leaving only about 1/2" exposed. In addition to this lock, I also installed a steel bar across the fixed door which is visible from outside the glass and acts as a theft deterent since the Prime Line lock sits tight to the frame and isn't visible to would-be thieves when installed. This lock hasn't been put to the test, but I'm guessing the glass in the door would fail/break before this lock will give. While I am extremely pleased with this lock, I gave it 4 out of 5 stars because the housing could use to be a little deeper than it is, or Prime Line should include a 1/8" plastic spacer. I had a difficult time using a standard sized drill and drilling a 3/8 hole straight up into the frame to receive the bolt because the hole for the bolt needs to be drilled fairly close to the door. If it's not stright, the bolt will bind and the lock won't operate smoothly. To resolve this issue, I installed a piece of 1/8" thick polycarbonate which serves as a spacer and gives me the clearance I needed for my drill. If you have a thin drill, clearance may not be an issue for you. I recommend this product because it's inexpensive peace of mind against a break-in.

We Bought this Lock Thru Amazon from AntOnline
It was installed correctly + functioned well for almost a month
then started getting hard to lock + now does not function at all.

It was not that hard to install + seemed to work well at first but started getting tricky to lock + now no longer locks at all, the bolt will not engage [+ nothing is in the way or wrong with the door] This lock is of a very simple design + should still function but it will not close or engage the bolt

ANTONLINE should replace the defective lock with one that works by sending a replacement lock!
but I highly doubt from reading about their customer service that there will be any resolution to their continued selling of faulty products.
