I was very disappointed. I didn't receive any documentation instructing me not to put this in the dishwasher. The first time I did, all the 'silver' coating came off and you couldn't touch the hammer without turning your hands black. I dont know what the substance is that was just below the coating, but it is totally ruined. I used it once in that condition by putting it inside a large baggie, but that is impractical and not completely safe.

I only used it once and washed it by hand and it is discolored. I could've got one at walmart for half the price, then I would've expected that.

This mallet feels good in the hand and it takes only a few whacks to flatten a boneless chicken breast without damaging the membrane. It is nice and heavy and professional in quality.

Instead of using other means to tenderize a piece of chicken, steak, or pork I decided on the Norpro 153 Meat Hammer because it is sturdy and does the job really well. Oddly enough my kids only eat chicken when it has been tenderized well.
