4Omelets in a jiffyMar 06, 2010
By Vee
The Nordic Ware Microwave Omelet Pan is quite a nifty little kitchen gadget. Before purchasing, I had said to myself, "Making an omelet in the microwave? Impossible." I got this pan and was proven wrong. To my surprise, the omelets made in this pan come out rather tasty. I was also pleased that the eggs come right out of the pan and don't stick at all. However, as others have said, you must use some kind of cooking spray, oil or butter for a completely non-sticking surface when removing the egg from the pan. It's easy to clean. No stuck-on, hard to remove egg whatsoever.

I remember reading one or maybe a few reviews that said their pan didn't come with instructions. Mine did. I followed them and the resulting omelet was not the best. It came out a bit hard. It was edible and not bad but not particularly the best omelet. The instructions are rather standard and goes as follows:
- 2-4 eggs
- 2 tablespoons of milk or water
- Beat in a small bowl
- Pour the mixture in the omelet pan evenly on both sides
- Cook for 2 minutes
- Stir from outside in
- Place the toppings on each half and cook for another 1.5 minutes
- Remove from the microwave
- Fold the pan to make the omelet

What the instructions do not take into account is the wattage of the microwave you're using or that times may vary depending on the amount of eggs you use.

My findings based on the use of 2 eggs, which I think is more than enough(for me anyway), is that hand or electrically mixed eggs took 1.15 to 1.30 minutes to be completely cooked or when the eggs started to bubble up and it looked like they would bubble over and the wet egg was consumed. Any longer or following the above directions provided by Nordic Ware resulted in the hard or rubbery eggs that I described earlier. However, using the times I indicated resulted in a soft, fluffy, fully cooked omelet which was more to my liking. Another important note is that I'm using a 1250W microwave. Perhaps the factory directions would be more suitable if you have a lower wattage microwave or are using more than 2 eggs.
I mostly make cheese omelets. I like to place the cheese on after I take the omelet out of the microwave because from experience when I did it as instructed, the cheese came out watery.

Pan fried, stove-made omelets taste better in my opinion but this pan still does a good job and in a fraction of the time.

I also use the omelet pan for making eggs to put in my breakfast sandwiches. I just beat one egg and pour it on one side of the pan. Cool gadget for quick eggs in the morning.

5Great Omelet!Jan 06, 2009
By Matthew J. Balda
I love omelets but rarely make them due to the hassle in making via a pan/stove. We have other microwave oven products from NordicWare that are also great so I decided to try the omelet pan as well. It makes a fantastic omelet, very glad I purchased it!

5Great for kidsSep 07, 2008
By Omar "Omar"
I bought this for my 3 teenage boys so they can make a mess free breakfast. It is easy, fast, and most importantly keeps my kitchen mess to a minimum. It is also easy to clean when they're done! The eggs of course are microwaved and they'll never taste as good as stove cooked but for the time and mess saved the taste difference is minimal.

I was skeptical about this, but for the price, it was worth a shot. The thing works great. BTW: Use non-stick spray with it.

5Now my kid cooks for meJul 27, 2010

This is a great little product. I actually purchased it a little kitchen supply shop. I am a guy who likes to cook, but I look for products to make my cooking more efficient and reduces clean up time. The first time I made an omelet in this device, I overcooked it because I was getting used to my microwave's settings but after that I was home free. I gave my 15 year old daughter a portion of mine and she enjoyed it. Two days later, she came to me one afternoon and asked if I could make her and omelet. I told her no, but I would show her how. Now she cooks them for me.

I love this product because it is quick and is easy to clean up. I no longer wait for a skillet to cool down to wash. I flop the omelet out onto a plate, give the pan a quick rinse in hot water and then rub with a soft scrub pad and this thing looks new again. Three eggs fill mine so I no longer try to cook four eggs at once. Often, I just cut the cooked omelet into two halves and slap them on bread to make two sandwiches. This becomes my own breakfast muffin of sorts which I eat in the car or while fishing on my boat. The other day I cut the omelet into long halves and placed them in soft tortilla shells to become breakfast burritos.

I will soon travel to Europe for a few weeks and will take this device with me as I can keep some of the meal cost down by making myself an omelet from time to time.

Here is how I cook mine. I mix 3 eggs in a bowl with two tablespoons of milk. The instructions say you can use milk or water for that part. After the eggs are scrambled in the bowl, you pour the eggs equally into each side of the cooking pan. I microwave mine for one minute and 35 seconds and then remove it from the microwave. I take a fork and run it around of the edge of each egg half to keep it separated from the edge of the pan. Then to one side of the egg, I add a torn up slice of american cheese, some slices of honey deli ham which I get in a three pack from Costco, a small bit of chopped green onions and season with salt and pepper. I then quickly close the cooking pan so the the other egg half lays onto of my ham cheese mix. I cook for another one minute 35 seconds, and I am done. Just slide the omelet onto a plate and you are ready to go.

I see other folks talking about pre coating the pan with non stick spray, but I never have and my eggs have never had an issue sliding right out of the pan.

Can you tell I love this product. I know you will like it too. I would have loved to have had this device with me in the dorms at college. Of course, back then, not too many microwaves around, lol.
