Sb half-surface hinge. Has strong fully enclosed spring and can be used on either right hand or left hand doors. Solid brass collar has stud pin for adjusting spring tension. The butt leaf has width for 1-1/8" mortise and fits against the stop on jamb.

Fit the project after a bit of rework!Sep 19, 2010

I was looking for a screen door hinge that I could install in the center of 8"x8" pine post beams. I had other limitations in trying to use face mount hinges. I never heard of an adjustable half-surface spring hinge. I wasn't a 100% sure whether they would work as the door was a special height - 12" higher than a standard screen door. They worked great after the installation. I had to repaint them black and the spring adjusting pin used to set the tension on the hinge had to be reworked to fit into the holes. I believe the paint they used was the culprit coating the holes. The hinge is steel painted to look like brass but not a good match. The hinges appear to be well made and the two hinges close the large screen door once the tension was adjusted. The hinges come in sets but it probably would have been a good idea for me to have 3 hinges on this door. The maximum weight or size of doors for these hinges should have been mentioned in the write up as they are on the back of the packaging. There is only enough parts to complete the job so don't lose any screws or small pins that fit in the holes after the tension is set.

Wow! I did not think these were made. No more stamped metal junk that fails due to metal fatigue, these hinges should last a long time. Plus, they are the half surface type hinge. I searched Lowe's and Home Depot, and the store help staff had not a clue what a half surface screen door hinge was or looked like. I did paint mine black, to better blend/contrast with the bare wood screen door on my back porch. Thanks!
