5Fixing a $150 faucet with a $20 part Moen would have sent me for freeDec 23, 2008
By Ehkzu
Our Moen kitchen faucet gradually got to working more and more stickily, until one of us broke the plastic "pivot nut" collar thingie just trying to push the handle up and down. With some trepidation I ordered this part and a new pivot nut. Both arrived quickly and I was able to install them, even though I'd never done a repair like this before. One issue others have mentioned was the perhaps fragility of the plastic device provided with this cartridge to unscrew the old one and screw in this one. Bearing that in mind I used standard needle nose pliers to break loose the retainer ring for the old cartridge, only using the plastic tool to unscrew it after that. I don't even know whether that was necessary, but in any case it worked. And now the $150 faucet works like new after me spending only an hour or so on fixing it. Oh, and ordering it through Amazon was easy and quick, and it arrived quickly as well. I didn't need the expensive cartridge pulling tool Amazon lists, nor did I have to replace the clip you must remove before unscrewing the cartridge--the old clip worked just fine. I did need standard small needlenose pliers to remove it, but everyone should have this tool in their junk drawer.

So let me encourage readers of this review. Those faucets are darned expensive, and now every time I use our kitchen faucet I get a little thrill from knowing how much $$$ I saved with this surprisingly simple repair. So go for it.

BTW I like supporting local businesses, but I also want to support the reader reviews Amazon hosts. I've found them invaluable, and hope mine can help others as they've helped me.

EDIT ADD: ...Several readers have pointed out that I could have gotten the part from the manufacturer for free. That's even better than $20!

5Installation HelpJul 06, 2009
By Kerton
Moen provides animated installation help on their website that is far better than printed materials with the product. Search the Moen site for "Installing the Moen 1225/1200 Cartridge".

5Genuine MoenJul 10, 2009
By Glenn E. Thomas
This is a GENUINE MOEN replacement for about 1/2 the price for one at a plumbing supply.
This plastic one is recommended over the (more expensive) brass one if you have hard water.

4easy to install replacement partMar 02, 2009
By B. Webb "~BW"
Easy to install, directions were just a little lacking, but what do you expect from a small replacement part. Recommend watching vids on youtube for installing if you need more comfort, and don't forget to use a generous amount of silicone grease (for plumbing) when installing... makes the action smooth and reduces wear on the gaskets.

5Moen Medora Faucet Drip an Easy FixFeb 05, 2009
By Daniel Chin
Our Moen Medora (7599) kitchen faucet was leaking and there are no washers to change. The Moen cartridge (1225) needs to be replaced. The trick is that you need the plastic adapter (included with the new cartridge) to remove the old cartridge. So don't bother taking apart the faucet until you get the new cartridge with the adapter. Don't try to pull the old cartridge out with pliers, you'll just make things worse. Take off the faucet handle from the top to get to the cartridge. All you need is a hex wrench, a screwdriver, adjustable wrench and about 20 minutes to fix the drip. Moen customer support was helpful and they also have a video on their website.
