2Bought this thinking it would be pure Tung oilSep 17, 2010

This is actually a a "Tung oil finish" not "pure tung oil". Apparently Im not alone and a lot of people confuse the two ([...]l)

Bought this thinking it would be 100% pure Tung oil, I'm feeling a bit misled and now bought another bottle from another brand which is 100% pure Tung oil. This is for a table in my bedroom and it is not practical for me to let this dry for a long time outside my room to be sure that all toxic compounds are evaporated.

Webpage manufacturer warns that it contains aliphatic hydrocarbons which can be toxic.

Formby's Tongue Oil Finish is a product that I have used quite a bit over the years and I have always had stellar results with it. It is easy to apply and easy to rub into the wood. I never use brushes when I refinsh a gun stock, preferring to rub the finish in by hand. It seems to give the wood a warmer glow. Let it set over night and it's dry waiting to be buffed or lightly worked over with either "oooo" steel wool or a scotch pad to add another coat.
On walnut wood it brings out the grain without covering up the natural color of the wood like Tru-Oil can. I use Tru-Oil also but never on walnut. I have found that on walnut Tru-Oil can completely cover the grain of the wood or at best hide it.

5Took lots of coats but did the jobOct 28, 2010

I used Formby's Tung Oil to refinish the surface of a table I bought. The first few coats were absorbed by the wood. After that I used 0000 steel wool between coats (as recommended). The finish is fantastic! Looks very natural. Was well worth the time and effort.
