5Malco Turbo Shear HD ReviewJan 10, 2007
By Crowman
I recently re-roofed my house in red metal. The roof had several complex valleys where the metal needed to be cut at various angles. The steel roofing panels were easily cut with the Malco TSHD attachment. I alternated using it between a Ryobi 18 volt battery powered electric drill and a Black & Decker 14.4 volt battery powered Fire Storm drill. Both worked equally well. The Turbo Shear attachment went through the 29 gauge steel like a knife through butter. The 3/4 inch high ribs were not a problem for the Turbo Shear attachment to cut through.

One thing I noticed was that the bottom shear jaw would scratch the metal on it's side; however, by placing the cutter on the waste side, this was eliminated. The spindle has three flats which makes it easy to tighten the battery powered drill's keyless chuck around. If you are installing metal roofing, this is a low-cost alternative to both a nibbler and power shear, plus with the freedom of going cordless.

Buy it.

5Professional roofer's reviewJul 10, 2009
By D. Troyer "danilissa"
I've been doing metal roofing for around twelve years and this is by far the best powered metal cutting tool I've met. Conventional nippers and punches were all inferior to my midwest snips Midwest Left Cuts Snip but when we found this marvelous invention maybe four or five years ago I finally had a competent powered snips.

This tool works better than advertised. It can indeed cut through several layers of standard metal roofing (28-29 gauge) thus saving extra time if you are cutting several pieces at the same angle or length. It fits the 18v DeWalt screw guns like it's been specially designed for it, but is also very versatile allowing it to fit different sizes and shapes of drills.

After years of hard use these things are still going strong. The jaws are a tad looser than they used to be and could use a little adjustment, but are still functioning well.

I wish I could meet the guy who invented this amazingly simple piece of ingenuity. Five and a half stars!!!!

4Works as advertisedJan 18, 2005
By D. Steinhauser "World Changer Crew Chief"
I purchased this item for installation of a metal roof. I also have their manual cutters, but this roofing material was too heavy for cutting this way. The turboshear cut through the metal easily, except the ridges in the metal were somewhat hard to navigate. It cut the metal with minimum burring and distortion. The only bad thing about it was the attachment to the drill. It would barely fit any cordless or corded drill that I or any of the crew had. But having a cordless metal shear saved us lots of time. I would highly recommend.

5pleasantly surprisedJan 09, 2007
By Stickboy "Stu2364"
I bought the turboshear hoping it would work as described. I wanted to remove some ribbed metal roofing from the valleys on my house and replace it with flat metal. As I got into the project, It required a combination of turboshear, tin snips and attitude, due to multiple layers. The turboshear could not cut multiple layers but was able to get into pretty tight spots. It definitely made this project go a lot faster. Occasionally if I used too much force trying to get into a tight area, the brackets would slip on the drill handle. This didn't happen a lot. I definitely pushed the limits of the turboshear and was pleasantly surprised at how well it performed.

5Malco shears do well....Sep 02, 2005
By Wes Carraher "copper smith"
These scissor type power shears work very well. Mostly I work with copper sheet metal so I prefer them to the double cut models which have a strip of waste product with each cut. Previously I have always used hand snips for all long cuts, these shears save my arm from cramps. Not a perfect edge on the cut, but good enough for roofing products which I mostly do. Very beefy, not too heavy, looks like they will last forever...
