32414B modelOct 04, 2003

It is well worth it to by the 2414B(insted of 2414NB) model. It costs a little more and is slightly harder to find, but it is a much better saw. The pivoting head doesn't seem all that wonderfull in theory, but after a few cuts you will love it. The 2414B is a 5 star saw. It puts out plenty of power to make quick cuts, dynamic parts move smoothly, and the blade guard doesn't block the view of you marks. A very well designed machine. However what makes it singular, is the pivoting head.

I run a machine shop for a fence company (wrought iron) This saw has lasted longer than any other saw in its class.

5The only chop saw left that is MADE IN USA: Buy this one!Dec 22, 1999

I've sold industrial supplies for over 18 years, and have tried every chop saw made. 18 years ago, they were all US made. Now, Makita stands alone with a great saw that is built in Georgia. At this price, you should snap one up. We've sold lots of these over the years for as much as $249 (as the yen fluctuates), so the pricing now is exceptional on a really beefy saw. As for Makita Corp.: they are tops in our book. The company I founded, Welder's Warehouse of Upland, CA. asked Makita to sponsor the Page One Job Training Project, which teaches welding processes to high school aged youth. Makita graciously accepted, donating two chop saws, 2 grinders, and 2 polishers. So, in my book, there is no other chop saw to even consider. Makita's chop saw is US made, Makita supports our U.S. youth job training programs which puts U.S. citizens to work. And did I mention the warranty? The best in the industry: you send it to Makita's Warranty Center, and two weeks later you have it back: good as new. My hat's off to you, Makita, for providing great sponsorship to a great youth training program. Respectfully submitted, Nathan S. Thompson.

4Makita 2414BJan 21, 2006

I got this chop saw about a year or so ago. It works great with good power to go through thick 2" and 3" stainless pipe and tube I have cut with it. I would suggest finding the 2414b model as being able to "rock" the saw helps to cut through tough steel. It seems like when you cut steel with a normal chop saw it gets half way through and doesn't cut as fast based on the angle. The 2414b lets you basically adjust the saw angle so that it gets through it quicker. I would give it 5 stars but my saw developed a problem. It tripped the breaker as soon as I turned it on, without even cutting steel. Took it to service and they corrected the problem. I debated with many saws and tried many, but this is the best.

3Bad economics of abrasive disc sawsJan 13, 2000
By Ryan Lanham
The metal blade chop saws such as DeWalt's sell for 2x to 2.5x the price of this one. However, they work better, and the blade is much more reliable. This was a bad idea from the outset...soft cutting wheels. I argue they are too quick to fail, possibly even dangerous when they do. This is a saw for light aluminum work or for steel studs for drywall or maybe electrical conduit. Any of those applications would be better served by an investment in a metal blade tool.
