The Lucky Line Key-Bak has a number of features that make it the very best I've ever used or heard about. I've been using them for years, and won't go back to the metal chain types. Some of these features are 1) a very smooth and thin cord instead of a chain, which runs very smoothly. Because of the thinness and smoothness of the cable, a lot more can be put on the reel, so the cord reaches much farther. 2) the belt clip has a design that holds it on your belt. It won't come off accidentally, but can be easily removed without opening the belt. 3) There is a latch that can hold the key ring positively to the reel cover, so a heavy ring of keys will hang firmly. Since they don't depend on the spring to hold heavy keys, the spring can be lighter, making the device easier to use. When I'm driving, I don't have to remove my ignition key from the ring. I put the key in the ignition while still connected to the key-bak. The light spring tension, the long length of the line and the smooth operation of the key-bak lets me move around in the seat normally without any discomfort from the key-bak. 4) It's well-made and rugged. It lasts longer than chain type reels. Like I said, this is the best I've ever seen or used, and I'm a senior citizen who has used many such devices, and was always dissatisfied with the older types until I finally found a Lucky Line Key-Bak.

I have had other key returns but this one solves two previous problems. Too many keys and I would have to adjust the spring tension in the winder. This unit has a positive cradle making that unnecessary. Secondly, this model has a positive clip when you slide it over the top of your belt after you arrive at work. It makes it very difficult for your keys and ring to get knocked off and lost.

I'm not using this for keys. I have a couple of lightweight heat guns meant for embossing ink. I use them for heat shrink tubing. I use the Key Bak to hold the heat gun over my bench.

After I opened it and tightened it one turn, it was just enough to hold the heat gun but not enough to retract, which is just perfect.

The cable is silky smooth and strong. I really need the 4 foot line for my purposes.

Long-Lasting: Superior to Metal ChainApr 05, 2009

I originally had this same type of thing in the traditional all-metal design: metal housing and metal chain. It didn't last long, the line wasn't long enough, etc., so I went for quality. This is worth it. The movement is smooth because the line is smooth, unlike a metal chain: modern materials. Very durable, long-lasting, it's just how I want it to be in every way.

This item does exactly what it's supposed to do: it extends your key ring from your belt, via a strong cord. What I like best about this product, is that it has a little ball on the end of the cord that locks into place, thereby keeping your keys from extending the cord due to weight. I have a large key ring that would normally pull the cord down as it hung from my belt. This locking mechanism prevents this. I am pleased with this purchase.
