4Great curtain rod with many usesAug 18, 2009

I used this rod across a 120" doorway to separate my family room and kitchen. There's a lot of light from the kitchen during the day, so adding room-darkening curtains makes a big difference for daytime movie watching. It also gives enough privacy to turn the room into a guest room.

The rod worked perfectly and was easy to install with the wall-mount clips (which extend about 2" from the wall). It can also be drilled directly to the ceiling.

It does come with 29 carriers and 31 alligator clips (two of them can go on the stationary loops on the end-caps). If you want to use pinch pleat curtains, you have to buy the hooks and attach them to the carriers (in place of the alligator clips). I used pliers to pinch the alligator hooks onto the carriers. It seems like they could fall off otherwise.

The rod is rated to hold 1 pound per foot, which could be important if you are using heavy curtains. I have curtains that weigh about 7 lbs. total on the rod extended a full 10 feet and it feels secure. (So far, but we've been opening and shutting them quite a bit!)

The only problem was that it was very difficult to find this rod and it was bent in shipping (which sounds like a common occurrence from the reviews at other places). Fortunately, I was able to fix the rod enough to make it workable. It would be nice if local stores carried a simple track rod like this.

I'm only giving 4 out of 5 stars because it is awfully loud to pull the curtain along the track. For the price of this rod, it's not that big of a deal, but if it was quieter it would be a 5-star curtain rod for sure!

The item was packed well and arrived on time. Included were the proper clips for side mounting. I though mounted it directly to the ceiling to divide a room and did not use the clips. I just drilled the necessary holes through the rod. Works fine.

I have this track up and am using it, though I decided on the silver color option. Unfortunately it arrived slightly bent. I elected not to return it because I have ordered several long pieces of drapery rods in the last year and they have ALL been damaged in transit.
The sliders would not slide past the bend initially but we were able to bend it back into shape.

The sliding pegs are plastic but move well. I work in a hospital so deal with industrial versions of these curtains and this is quieter and moves very smoothly.
Look for something heavier duty for draperies, or a shower curtain but this is great for a light curtain. Mine is hiding a workshop peg board in the family room, and it looks and works great, though not just a little due to the help from a talented friend who straightened it for me.

My advice: 1: The industry doesn't package these long thin drapery rods well enough to survive shipping. Buy this in stock at a store until they figure out how to ship it.
2: Use it for light loads only.

These arrived almost bent in half. Contacted seller and they immediately sent me another one and didn't even ask me to send the old one back...that's what I call customer service! The track itself was a little bit of a pain to put up. We put it on the ceiling. It took a little longer than expected but once it was up it was great...no problems.

Our TV area in our step down living room is adjacent to our dining room. These rooms are next to one another with no doors to close. We recently purchased the Universal Curtain Track and installed it in the ceiling to divide the two rooms. We also purchased black out curtains that were hooked to the curtain track. This has solved a two fold problem in our home. It blocks out any unwanted light for the TV area and it blocks out some of the sound in our dining area. The track was easy to install and came with the hardware that is needed to hook up the curtains. This is a difficult item to find in your local hardware store. I would highly recommend it.
