4Works well, but nothing too heavyDec 15, 2010

These rods work using spring tension. While no instructions came with it, it was easy to figure out (disclaimer: I didn't buy mine from Amazon).

Twist the rod to adjust the length, and use the spring system to install. This basically involves adjusting the rod till it's slightly longer than the dimensions of the inner window frame, positioning one of the ends in the inner frame, then pushing the other end (inwards, towards the middle) and releasing so it latches onto the inside of the window frame. It's labeled R and L on either side to help figure out which is right side up.

The way the rod curves outwards means that the curtains can drape partway over the window frame which I like. I looked at pictures of regular tension rods, and it doesn't look like they have this feature although I could be mistaken. Like the reviews of those other rods, this is not meant to hold up overly heavy materials. I used them with 42x63 curtain panels that have thermal backing, so they are fairly heavy. It can easily hold up 1 panel (I tugged lightly at it and it didn't budge), but I was not able to make it stay at all with 2 panels. My windows are small thankfully so admittedly I didn't try as hard than if I had needed 2 panels per window (I was merely checking if the patterns lined up). If necessary, there is what looks like a nail (or small screw) hole on each end to help them stay up, but that just defeats the purpose of the product in my opinion.

The rods themselves are lightweight metal, construction is okay in my opinion (for the price, don't expect heavy duty material). It works well, looks nice if you like the simple design. I have no complaints.

If you would like a better idea of how it works, search for Kirsch Twist and Fit rod from JCP. They have more illustrative pictures there of how it would work. (Note: In Amazon's Product Features, it says Levolar/Kirsch/Newell. I believe these are the same product).

I didn't want to have to worry about screwing holes into my walls and all that nonsense. These things worked perfectly. They hold up my sheer curtains in my bedroom. They can hold heavy curtains too if you follow the directions. Extend to about 1/2" more than your window then compress and position. Let loose and they hold really tightly into the window frame. When extending to the full 48", they are really flimsy. I wouldn't use them for full length.

1This thing is a piece of *beeeeeeeeep*Jun 03, 2011

What a waste of money. First, there are no directions, and if you can figure it out just by looking at the equipment, I'm impressed, because I couldn't. After visiting three web sites in order to find a picture of it actually at work, rather than just a shot of the knob on the end, I finally figured out how it was SUPPOSED to work. And when they say no tools? They neglect to mention that this is because of the small sharp piece you are supposed to press into the wall. Defeats the purpose for those of us who rent and can't MAKE holes in the wall. Also it is MUCH flimsier than a good solid spring rod, because apparently the dinky thing stabbing your wall will make up the difference. The other thing not mentioned it that unless your window frames are PERFECTLY square, say in an old Victorian house, it doesn't work. You must have perfectly square window frames, AND they must be exactly the right width to make both the little triangle face up at the same time when you unscrew it. Otherwise you're out of luck. I'd return it except that I already return the curtains from JCPenny that I ordered with it because they too were awful, so no longer have the receipt. Guess where I am NOT shopping anymore?

2Doesn't extend as long as it saysMay 27, 2011

I bought this item thinking that it would be a good fit for my 47" window, I only wanted to put shear curtains on it as it is my kitchen window (which faces the front of my house) I wanted some privacy but not to block the light, so I wasn't concerned about it's ability to hold heavy curtains... but was disappointed when I extended the rod out to 46 1/2" and it came apart, not that the coming apart was a problem, it went together quite easy enough, just that it DIDN'T expand to the full distance I needed it to which is AT LEAST 1/2 an inch longer than the measurement of the window (according to most twist and fit rods instructions)... FYI I studied physics in college (so I know a little about this stuff); in order for it to accomodate heavier curtains it's possible to increase the tension of the rod by expending the length beyond the minimum required 1/2 inch to get maximum hold 3/4 inch would hold more than the 1/2 inch and 1 inch would hold even more (I think the instructions said 1/2 to 1 inch, not sure if you could push beyond that)... laymans words, the harder the spring works to push against the wall the more weight it can support (but it still has it's limits, so don't think 2 inches will be able to hold 20lb panels, because you might not be able to push the spring that much AND the rod itself probably just won't support that weight). Unfortunately since the rod would not extend beyond 46 1/2 inches I could not hang my curtains, so the product does not work as advertised. That being said I'm sure it would have worked as I needed it to IF I'd had a smaller window. Best of luck to those who have windows LESS than 46 inches! I'm off to search if there is an extendable rod that will work for my 47" windows as I live in a rental and do not wish to put holes in the wall if I don't have to!

I received my wonderful (I use wonderful with great sarcasm) curtain rod today. In the package I can tell it wasn't all fancy and what not but it would obviously still hold up my curtains in my dorm. Little did I know that upon closer inspection that the curtain rod was in fact broken, right near where the rod entered the decorative part. I was very upset because I really need a curtain rod NOW! So no I will not be returning it because I will not wait for another and I do not feel like looking for another one, I have already glued it back together (btw when I was gluing it, it seemed to crack even more and I would tell that the cheap plastic was cheaper than I thought) I will just leave this bad product review, and if this one is deleted (it seems that most of my bad product reviews are) I will post it again and again and again.

Thank you for the cheap product
