Excellent Keying SetMay 18, 2011

Someone tried to break into our house (we think they had a key). So instead of paying over $100 to have someone rekey them, I figured I would do it myself for only $80 and some of my time.

This locking set is GREAT! Comes with extra springs and housing for the pins, which was important since my first keying attempt was a journey. After you rekey one lock, you can do other locks in a couple of minutes.

Word of Advise: I have a Kwikset knob lock I needed to rekey. The directions and online guides say you must press a spring in the back of the lock to release it from the knob. After hours of trying to engage this spring, I found a little known fact that some of their Ultramax Knob sets only require you to release the lock in the back, then insert the key and turn it 180 Degrees. The lock will pop right out (no spring to engage)! Double check this before you waste hours trying to engage a spring that isn't there.

Overall, this Keying Kit is well worth the money!

This kit is a must have if you are a landlord with multiple properties. I can get into all of my properties with one master key.

I've been a Pro Handyman for 35+ years. This was one of the first kits I ever purchased. ANYONE can re-key a lock given a little time and the right kit. If you want to have the ability to re-key or master-key your Kwikset locks, you couldn't make a better investment.

I've since purchased larger, more universal kits to expand our services, but for those that are using Kwikset locks exclusively, you can't go wrong.

Works as advertised! Love it and saves a ton of money. When I finally got the hang of it, I can re-key my deadbolts in just a few minutes. Door locks are longer, but once I get the cylinder out, it's very easy.
