4Kreg NZ03 Magnetic Drawer Slide Mounting ToolSep 03, 2005
By ALF@11kft "ALF"
Another helpful tool from Kreg. Upon opening the box, I was skeptical that the little magnetic insert would hold the slides adequately, but apparently size isn't everything. The jig grabs the slide securely and the blue plastic can be penciled for any needed backset. The jig holds Liberty, Blum, and brandX slides without any adjustment. The only improvement I'd suggest is a speed clamp area, to add a level of stability and avoid the three hand issue. After mounting 15 "euro" drawer slide sets of varying depths, it saved a lot of frustration and time. Well worth the twenty bucks!

4Pretty decent little jigJan 23, 2010
By B. Warren "A & S Cabinetry"
1. The jig is really for retrofitting or installing slides in pre-built cabinets. If you're building from scratch do yourself a favor and mount the cabinet member of your slides pre-build.

2. Works absolutely fabulously for ball-bearing slides, i.e. Accuride, KV, etc. Couldn't work any better.

3. For european 3/4 extension slides, be careful. If the roller of the cabinet member isn't perfectly flush with the edge of the slide, the jig will hold the slide slightly out of alignment from front to back. Blum 3/4 extension slides in particular exhibit this problem. Once you've identified this little issue it's an easy thing to adjust for, but it can add a lot of time re-adjusting slides if you don't figure it out.

4. For undermount ball-bearing slides, again, works fabulously.

5. Will not work in any shape or form for undermount slides like Blum Tandem.

The next thing to be aware of when using the jig to retrofit new slides into existing cabinets is that it will set the slide square and perpendicular to the face frame...if there's any irregularity in the face frame, it transfers to the slide.

All in all, a time-saver, worth the money, but as with all tools learn its limitations.

5Magnetic drawer slide mounting tool.May 25, 2008
By Robert Mishica
After a lenghty and error prone attempt at mounting bottom mount drawer slides, took the project to school where the instructor introduced me to the Kreg mounting tool. What a piece of cake, important as I am in the process of building four credenzas, involving 16 drawers. Have the mounting brackets on order. Thank you. Bob Mishica

4The Third Hand You Always NeedJul 16, 2009
By Rustic Dave "Rustic woodworker"
Worked well with the bottom mount slides on a 20 drawer face frame built-in. Did need a little tweaking with the rear alignment, but that was because of my design. Magnets are strong and hold well. Did not get the Kreg clamp, almost any small clamp (C-clamp, quick grip, etc.) in your shop should work. Would recommend.

2Is there a cross member on your face frame under your drawer?Aug 20, 2010
By Reviewer
I bought this tool because I was building a filing cabinet. The cabinet has a face frame but the drawers are floating and there is no cross member in the face frame that separates the drawers as there would be on a kitchen cabinet. Hard to explain... but picture the face frame with a large opening for the cabinet door and a smaller, thin, and rectangular opening for the upper drawer. This tool would be clamped to the piece of 3/4" wood (the horizontal rail) that defines the separation between openings.

I didn't understand this difference until I tried to mount my full extension drawer slides and I was having trouble clamping it down on the vertical stile of my face frame. I couldn't find a spot to get any leverage on it, and my Kreg face "klamp" was too big to fit on it. I tried several different angles and even tried using various C-clamps to hold it in place, but it wasn't working. After messing with it for a few minutes I realized I would have been able to cut a few stop blocks or story sticks by now, so I just did that. Drawers are now mounted. Afterward I went back to have another look at the tool instructions and only then did I notice that all illustrations showed the tool clamped to a horizontal rail. That's a subtle difference that belies the advertisement that this is the perfect tool for mounting drawer slides.

Perhaps if I was building a more conventional kitchen cabinet (or a few of them) this would be worth it, but I was pretty annoyed. I bought this and the other drawer mounting tool from Kreg. Since Kreg's pocket hole jig got me into furniture building, I expected more from this tool. A tool like this could certainly be a bit more universal and would only require minor modifications to allow it to be used on stile or rail - why don't they do that?
