5High quality cuttersDec 05, 2006

Klein Tools 63050 High-Leverage Cable Cutter

I bought this tool to cut bundled cable (two each RG6 and Cat5e in a PVC jacket). My Klein wire cutters weren't big enough to cut the 5/8" bundle in one pass. This cable cutter slices through the bundle with ease. The cutter can also cut a dozen or so 12 or 14 gage wires concurrently, far more than possible with a typical wire cutter. The wire is cut very easily and cleanly with a squared off end, rather than angled like many wire cutters. Restrict the tool for ferrous metals (copper, brass, aluminum) and the blades should last a very long time. First rate quality and functionality. Worth 5 stars.

The specs for the J63050 (Journeyman model) are identical to this model. The only difference I can find is the J model has more comfortable handles; so if the price is close, I'd buy the J model.

Here's what the Klein web site says about this tool

Not for steel or ASCR (Aluminum-clad steel core wire)
High-leverage design for exceptional cutting capability
Precision, one-hand shearing action
Cable-gripping shear-type jaws
Perfect for working in confined spaces
Can be carried in most tool pouches
Hot-riveted joint ensures smooth action and no handle wobble
Beveled jaw tips provide proper mating and shearing action, which protects leading jaw edges
Through-hardened (not case-hardened) for longer-lasting cutting surfaces
Custom, US-made tool steel
Maximum cutting capacity: 4/0 aluminum, 2/0 soft copper, 100-pair 24 AWG communications wire
9.5" long

5For the heavy stuffDec 17, 2007
By Andrea F "James F"
This is a great tool for cutting heavy gauge cable! I recently employed these on a job where I ran 6/3 romex to feed a 50 amp sub panel on a 2nd floor and needed a way to trim the cable to length and this tool was able to accomplish the task with ease.

These cutters are constructed of the same high quality steel as my other klein pliers(see reviews, please)
and are warranteed for life as long as they are not abused.( i.e: not blown out from an arc as you cut a live wire!)

There is a comfortable red rubber handle material that makes these pliers easy to use for long periods.

These pliers are about 9 inches long and easily fit in my tool buckets(see reviews)Many cable cutters the pros use are much larger, and resemble a pair of prunning shears. I don't do alot of big cable work, so these fit my needs.

I bought these because of the many great years of trouble free service I have gotten from my other Klein tools.(see reviews, please) I have not seen many other manufacturers offer these in this compact size, except perhaps Channellock.

I don't use these alot, but I could not have done that sub panel as quickly using any other tool to cut the cable and its conductors to the proper length.

These dudes are really sharp, as long as you don't let any co-workers destroy them by cutting barbed wire! (copper only)
