5Great for Plumbing RepairsMar 27, 2010
By BargainHunter
I've used the original JB Weld for many years but have only used JB's Waterweld once--on a leaking threaded pipe joint in my basement's fresh water supply. I turned off the water supply and removed the pressure from the line before applying. I did not restore pressure to the line until after the product was fully cured. Before applying, I cleaned the metal surface with emery cloth & a wire wheel and then removed any remain dirt or oil with isopropyl alcohol. I patched the pipe joint approximately three years ago and it has not leaked since. Word to the wise: Work quickly because it sets up fast!... It will no longer be pliable in two minutes or less from the time you mix it. I'd highly recommend this product and/or the original JB Weld. They are both great products!

05/06/2010 Edit: Although I haven't had problems in the past using isopropyl alcohol to clean my bonding surfaces, prior to applying J-B Weld products, it is worth noting that the J-B Weld FAQ recommends NOT using alcohol because of it leaving a "petroleum residue". They recommend cleaning with acetone or lacquer thinner instead.

5Very effective at patching plumbingJul 25, 2008

This stuff worked wonders on a brass pipe that was nearly split in half!
Word to the wise: make ABSOLUTELY SURE that you mix the two components of the putty well, otherwise it will not work very well.

5Fastest & Best Pipe Leak FixerMay 31, 2011
By GadgetGuru
While nailing new baseboards in my home, I hit a 1/2" diameter copper water pipe that the builder had poorly placed. As soon as I heard the hissing sound and water started to appear below the baseboard . I quickly cut a square piece of drywall to expose the damage. Even though it was a pin hole in the copper pipe, water sprayed about 10 feet until I shut off the main valve. Tried patching it with 2part Copper Epoxy. Didn't work. Tried making a copper clamp with the same epoxy. Four hours later, still leaking.

Bought Water Weld and decided to give it try prior to calling a professional plumber. After reading some of the other reviews here, I believed I had a 60/40 chance of success. Cut off a 1/2" wide slice and kneaded it by hand for about a minute as instructed. Roughed up the copper pipe with some steel wool and sandpaper. Wrapped the copper pipe with a strip about the diameter of a lead pencil. Flattened it out against the copper pipe and while I was doing it, I could feel a few drops of water escaping from the leak. I prayed that water would not affect Water Weld as advertised.

Exactly 62 minutes later, I looked at the weld which had turned almost a solid white. I touched it and it felt rock hard. Turned on my water and waited to see if it would hold. YEAH! This stuff worked for me EXACTLY as advertised and did the job faster, easier and cheaper than any other epoxy, fiberglass wrap or solder kit.

TIP: After you knead and apply it, wash your hands thoroughly ASAP or you might end up with grey fingertips like I have as I type this.

5J-B Weld does just what it says it can do!Feb 10, 2011
By Theresa
I had a leak in the pipe that comes out of the top of my hot water tank, the water was squirting straight up into the air. We worked the weld according to the direction and then we wrapped a piece of weld around the entire pipe (while the water was still coming out of the pipe) hand pressure was kept on the weld until the water stopped leaking from underneath of the J-B Weld, then we just kept an eye on it until it hardened. My hot water tank is in a room just big enough for the tank to fit into it and the door to get to the tank is on the outside of the house. Anyway here it is, about three years later and J-B Weld is still holding. I wasn't too sure about the claims they were making on the package when I purchased it, but I figured I'd give it a try and hopefully save myself some money. It's one of the best investments I've ever made. Every once and awhile a company will come along and surprise you by actually doing what they say they can do!

I highly recommend this product!
