I appreciate that someone is trying to design one of these types of float toys for a toddler. If you have a small toddler that doesn't kick up a ruckus, then this might work out fine for you. I do not believe this would work for a 5 year old. My son is a very very big 2 year old. He fits in it just fine, but it doesn't have enough air to be stable enough, it's not tippy, it just doesn't have enough air to keep little fellas that don't know how dangerous water can be from throwing themselves out of it.

Also, if you want your child to be able to wear a life jacket, this is NOT for you. Neither my son, nor my 1 year old daughter fit in here with their life jackets on. My daughter is a size 24m.
Overall I'm disappointed. If it had more air around the sides & back, then they would fit in it & not need a life jacket, but I could still put a life jacket on my child for my peace of mind. Win win.

I graded this high on educational value, because as long as someone is RIGHT there, paying strict attention to ensure the child seated in this doesn't drown, it could conceivably teach a child not to throw himself around in such a way as to get his face in the water, so it could teach safer behavior in the water. Then again maybe not.
Things like this need to be well nigh impossible for little ones to lean or throw themselves out of or you could have a tragedy on your hands. This one is better than nothing, but not good enough.

Things I like about this toy: The seat. It has the plastic seat with leg holes, comfortable to sit in. I think the design is cute. I like that the seat sits down in the water.

Things I don't like about this toy: There isn't enough air chamber around the sides & back. It doesn't really work for the age range it claims to be, sits a little too far down in the water with their weight. (My very tall son weighs about 33 pounds.) but you can get safer more stable products for the age range it does fit. I have a boat for my daughter I much prefer, but I would feel far better with her in this toy than my son.
You have a catch twenty two with this thing. A life jacket pushes the child backwards too far We had to hold it up or it would have dumped him headfirst & upside down into the water. It has way too much 'stuff' in the front, but not nearly enough on the sides to be safe without a life jacket. This is with two parents standing right there. One of us had to hold it up & the other pull him out of it. We only intended to use it in the pool, no river currents, & I couldn't even use it safely for that. Better than nothing, but don't trust it, not for a second.
If you have a child that is very small for his age, & knows a little better how to act in the water, I don't think you'd have any problems with this, as long as you were confident your child would be safe without a life jacket.

I shopped around because my son is 2 and we don't have many chances to go swimming. He is too young for a vest or arm floaties but I wanted soemthing I could put him in so my arms wouldn't get tired. Every where I looked, I could not find one for his age...they were either too small (or weight limit didn't match) or they weren't appropriate for his age. I loved it and it worked well for us.

The description said this was for a 3 - 5 year old. No way! My grandson weighs 30 pounds and he is 22 months old and he was too big for it.

This floatie was good for my son who is 5 and 45 lbs, but I doubt he will have much more time with it if he get plumper. Would not recommend if your child is not thin, otherwise it works well! He never toppeled over which is what I was worried about most but surprisingly he rocked vigurously as most boys tend to and never flipped over!
