4Pretty good sharpening stone, but get a dual sided one.Jan 19, 2010

I picked this diamond whetstone because I didn't know how well they would work and I wanted to spend the least amount of money for the experiment. I'm glad to say that the DMT Diamond Whetstones have so far met my expectations and gone at least one step further. This one while rated "fine" is closer to a "medium" grit in the amount of material it will remove from your knife. The size of the particles may be "fine" but it cuts very fast, so go easy unless your knife is really dull.

Two things, if you have room, get the bigger bench sized "stones" they are easier to work with. This one, the handle hinges are a bit flimsy and while haven't broken, lets the "stone" move in your hand as you are sharpening. (as it bends away from the pressure on it by the blade.)

Second, if you get a folding one, get a dual sided version. You'll be wanting both the fine and the extra fine to sharpen a working kitchen or pocket knife. For an axe blade, a fine and a course is probably the right combination.

I'm generally happy with mine, and if you are camping, a folding one is the way to go, but for home and shop use, get the bench one. DMT WM8EF-WB DuoSharp Plus Bench Stone-Extra Fine/Fine With Base

After about 9 months it would not sharpen any more Knives. Natural stone, ceramic stones and pull through sharpeners are far superior to diamond embedded sharpeners.
