Easy to work with. Looks fine in the fireplace.... the black matches the back of the fireplace :-). Be sure to buy enough to finish the job. Because I took so much of the mortar out of the fireplace I ran out early.

I was looking for a simple fireplace mortar fix for some work around my woodburner. I bought 5 tubes of this stuff for about $6.50 a piece. It went on easily and dried with a black shine to it. It looked good for a few weeks but after a few fires, it turned to almost a light grey color and pieces began to peel up and flake off. I still do not know why this happened but I'm definately not happy with it and and would not recommend it.

Home stores ROB you for this stuff, I was literally price shocked in the HD when I found this stuff, came straight home and found it here, less than HALF of what HD wanted for it. Good stuff too, just don't make a mess as its not easy to clean up!

I used this mortar to seal an ash dump that we no longer used in our fireplace. I have had numorous fires, most very large and the mortar has stood up to the extremely high temperatures.

Just in case you are not aware, the ash dump is in the bottom of the fireplace where the ambers fall off the logs so it is really in the hotest part of the fireplace. This is a very good product.

This product seems to only last for a small number of firings, I'd guess around eight, before it begins to flake off. Therefore I would say it doesn't work well for sealing where stove pipe sections meet (wood burning stove pipe.) On the plus side it's cheap, and can easily be reapplied.
