4Perfect for large solder jointsMar 14, 2009
By R. Murdock "Anonymous"
I purchased this iron to solder leads and ground wires to potentiometers, switches and output jacks on electric guitars and basses. It works perfectly for this type of solder job - but beware... do not use this for fine work or on items that require low temp solder joints. This baby gets very hot! I gave it 4 stars because the iron stand is nearly useless and cheap.

5It worksDec 05, 2008

This iron is NOT made for micro electronics. It is way too big and hot for ic chips, transistors, etc.

It is made for thicker metals such as 18 gauge wire, metal strips, etc... I only used it once, but it heated up quick and made short order of soldering the wires back unto an electric guitar plug socket.

4Great for medium size jobs.Aug 03, 2009

This is 40 Watt soldering iron. My only complaint is that you have to buy fine tips separately. Since it is 40 Watts, this iron will heat up quicker than a 25 Watt. I do not recommend using it on fine work unless you can get a fine or smaller tip. It is a good iron to use for medium soldering jobs.

4Great priceAug 31, 2011

This is a good inexpensive soldering iron that works well for what we use them for. The are used at the my office by a number of the guys and no one seems to complain about them. The stand is a little cheap but we use other stands we have already.

5Weller Solder IronMar 23, 2011
By ArizonaPilot
I bought this to see if it was any better than the Radio Shack model I own, which has the same wattage rating. The difference is black and white. It gets super hot and it does that quickly. Wish I had bought it instead of the Radio Shack equivalent.
