5Cooper Security Lighting for Home use a Great Buy!Aug 09, 2010
By E J Clark
This product is well worth the money if you are looking for a well built & constructed security yard light. It's also very easy to install. The 100 Watt Metal Halide bulb lights up my yard, my neighbors yards and my alley. The light puts off a bright cool white light that is very pleasing to the eye. Even though it is expensive and you could get a cheaper light I would still recommend this over others because of the metal construction which would hold up for years to come. I previously own a Lights of America 65W Fluorex yard light which is equal to a 500 watt bulb because a Fluorex bulb is a very white light, but this yard light beats Lights of America in brightness and in construction. When I purchased the Lights of America yard light I bought two of them just in case one failed. Well after about five years to six years the first failed to work and the plastic begin to break down, so I put up the second and after another eight or nine years the second failed and the plastic began to break down also. I believe that because they were made of plastic they did not hold up as well, but they did serve their purpose very well. The Cooper Area Light is a heavy metal well constructed industrial grade light that I believe will not break down like the Lights of America did and in the long run will end up costing less. Also the Cooper Security light is a very attractive light which will add to the appearance of any home.

Up date after 14 months: I have this Cooper Security Light in my back yard mounted about 14 feet high. When you stand under the light it's like standing in direct sunlight only brighter. this lights the whole of my back yard, my neighbors back yard on both sides of me and the alley which is over 90 feet back. It also lights the tops of all our trees. The coverage is total and extremely bright. By the way being mounted at the corner of my patio it lights the side of my house, neighbors house and front street plus house accross the street, no kidding. I have had this light sense the 7/10/2010 and the structure looks like I just put it up and has never failed to light nor give the same brilliant light as it did at first. I have gone through two Lights of America that had good lighting, but they were made of plastic which over time craked and the power starter failed in both. The Cooper Yard Light is made of heavy insdustrial metal and painted surface has not faded period.

5Excellent ProductMay 21, 2011
By F. Gump
Pros:
I wanted to replace a similar Mercury Vapor (175 watt) unit about 10 years old with a Metal Halide (100 watt) unit due to the latter's energy efficiency. I again chose the Cooper unit because mounting it is a snap. A metal bracket is screwed to the mounting surface, the lamp fixture is dropped over a heavy metal pin in the bracket, the wiring is connected, the lamp fixture is swung back against the bracket, and a metal pin is dropped through the fixture into the mounting bracket. Done! This was important to me since the fixture is located 35 feet in the air. Overall, this unit is truly "industrial grade."
Cons:
"Out-of-the box" assembly involved unsnapping a couple latches to remove the plastic globe, installing the lamp, reinstalling the globe, and installing the photo-electric cell. The latter presented a problem in that I was unable to twist and lock it in position after numerous attempts. A call and email with a photo of my problem to Cooper's Customer Service representative resulted in the following response from them: "You should receive a new fixture in the next 3-5 business days. Thank you." Problem solved in less than three hours.
Overall:
Product: 5 stars, notwithstanding the photo-electric cell problem.
Cooper's Customer Service: 5 stars.
As usual, Amazon's service was exemplary.

5Very impressed so far!!!Feb 03, 2012
By CG Duner
OK this review my be a little long for some, so to summarize the light has been working perfectly so far & has excellant light output. This is only after 2 weeks but I'm expecting/hoping for years of trusty service.

Now the long version... Around 2 years ago I decided we needed to replace a broken dusk till dawn light on an approx 24' pole. That one had not worked for years so went to HD & got a 100W Lithonia(Metal Halide I believe) light. Got it installed & was happy with its operation & light output(not as bright as this Cooper though). After a year or so it started to turn off at night intermintantly. I wanted to put another one up over our shop so I went down to purchase the same light but it was no longer there but they did have a 70W Lithonia High Pressure Sodium. I bought two thinking that maybe it was a bulb issue on the 100W & maybe I could try the 70W in there. Obviously now I know that wouldn't work as the threads were different & I'm sure the ballasts are designed differently. So I pulled that 100W down & tested it inside my shed along with the new 70W. Even with a different power source that 100W shut off again. So I put up the 70W & it "worked" for a week or two. After that it started behaving like the 100W did. It would work fine one night then the next go off 10+ times for veried amounts of time then trying to restart for minutes then sometimes starting & sometimes failing... Had to be the power source I thought but it was wired correctly & the outlet checked out good. To double check I ran an extension cord from a different circuit & to my dismay it made no differance.

So when time allowed I did some research & found this Cooper light. I was familier with the brand because our multi-tap 400W shop lights were the same & they have always worked flawlessly. The reviews seemed to be very positive & I liked the looks of the light. The hinge mounting system is pretty cool but for the pole extension type of mount we use I had to build a bracket to mount it. No big deal but it seems that not all potential buyers are going to surface mount it so making a provision for a pole mount would of been nice. As said in the title I'm very happy with the light so far. It has only been a few weeks so we will see what happens. The other thing about these metal halides is the nice white(slight bluish) light. It said it on the box but I was not impressed with the Orangish light that the HP Sodium. I'm sure some don't mind but I don't like it at all. Now to be fair to Lithonia I installed the other 70W HP sodium around the same time in a different location & it has worked flawlessly. As said I don't like the orange light but other than that I'm happy with its performance. I'm taking care of that wierd colored light problem tonight though as I'm going to purchase a 70W Cooper Metal Halide to replace it...

I'll update if I have any problems or other comments

5China made something good for onceOct 03, 2011
By amowerman
Made In China. I will always pay more for everything not made In China, but looks like they are the only ones making area lights and this one Is the best choice since their other area lights are junk. So far I am satisfied with this light. It Is working as It should (amazingly) and withstanding the elements as If It were made In the USA.

5industrial lightJan 03, 2012
By Gregory J. Nelson
This light is a large unique looking item. It has an industrial look that is not available at regular stores. The bottom of the lens is enclosed and the wire cage cradles the lens while you are changing the bulb. Suppose to be energy efficient, we'll see! Special mounting bracket makes installation and maintenance a breeze!
