Great laundry boosterOct 08, 2010

I bought a case of six boxes of this from the manufacturer to get free shipping -- I use about 1/4 cup in my laundry with a little Borax and a TINY bit of laundry detergent. I'm surprised and pleased to find that even my oldest towels smell CLEAN and FRESH where before, even with line-drying outdoors in the sun, they smelled old and kind of sour. Where have they been hiding this stuff? It's great, worth every penny. Very highly recommended!

It's just baking soda on steroids. But unlike baking soda, this stuff is sodium carbonate, which has one atom instead of two, making it harsher than baking soda. So, don't eat it like you can do with baking soda, just clean with it. One thing I have noticed about washing soda as opposed to baking soda is it's much less powdery and dusty compared to baking soda.. That I really like.

I recently discovered the joys of making and having my own laundry soap. Having this substance is essential for that process. It's also good as a non-toxic substitute for making other cleansers and as a laundry additive. It's especially helpful for those of us that live in hard water areas, because it helps to change polarity and keep hard water from staining and causing damage.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm tired of using all those toxic cleansers. I don't even use chlorine bleach anymore.

Those of you on here griping about the price of things when you write a review on a product are off-topic.

I was having trouble with my white towels getting yellow, blotchy stains. For years, I could not figure it out. Nothing worked. Finally... using a 1 to 1 ratio, I mixed one cup of Arm & Hammer Super Washing Soda with one cup of 20 Mule Team Borax. I then added about three tablespoons of this mixture, along with a little bit of my regular detergent, per washing load, and "Voila" my towels were white. They smelled fresh and felt great! This mixture probably neutralized my water enough to release the stains. For a great price, you'll find this at all Walmarts ~~right next to the 20 Mule Team Borax. (I thank my daughter for the terrific idea...I now use it all the time.) My husband is the only one disappointed...he no longer has towels in his rag bag.

This stuff boosts the cleaning powder of whatever abluent you're using. I use it in laundry, but i also use it in the dishwasher to soften the water, and to clean the shower. It really does a great job on the shower. We live in a hard water area, so tackling hard water is important. It's like borax actually, but it's more related to baking soda. Unlike baking soda, it doesn't have that annoying powdery residue that baking soda has.

Washing Soda is also a key ingredient to making your own laundry soap. I tried making my own laundry soap 4 months ago, and have been hooked on it ever since. Yes, I thought making your own laundry soap was stupid too, until I tried it.

The brick and mortar stores have better prices on this stuff than Amazon does.

If you are looking to buy this product as a solution to your dishwashing or laundry soap whoas, note that the phosphates have been removed from this product. Some people buy this and combine it with Borax to make an inexpensive solution. Many people find that the phosphates help the cleaning power. Many manufacturers have removed phosphates due to environmental concerns.

I'm not stating these things to take sides. I'm just offering information. There has been a somewhat recent formula change in all (or almost all) dishsoaps.
