5Makes Plumbing SimpleJan 08, 2011

I love these fittings. They connect copper, PEX and CPVC without any difficulty. They are rated to be buried in walls, and can handle both potable water and heating system applications. Make sure the pipe is cut square, clean, and push the fitting on. That's it. There is a sleeve and teeth inside to hold the pipe and an internal O-ring seal. I've used these where there was stress at the joint, and haven't had a problem, they hold great. The price is steep when you compare it to a copper solder or PEX crimp fitting, but they're worth a lot in time savings. No more sweating fittings between joists and worrying about setting the house on fire. I also like that they work right the first time, and I don't have to worry about bad solder joints. It makes a reliable mechanically sealed joint in tight spaces in less than 30 seconds. There is also a competing product under the Gatorbite brand that is essentially identical.

I was truly amazed that this fitting works. I was very skeptical that something so easy to use would work as advertised. I just pushed the fitting on, turned on the water supply and it worked. There were no leaks, problems attaching or tools needed. I was using this in an area in the basement which was close to the wood ceiling. I was very hesitant in using a soldered fitting since I would be so close to flammable materials and be soldering right over my head in an awkward to get at corner. I have tried other types of pressure fittings from time to time with limited success. About half failed either immediately or with time. Though the Shark Bite fitting was much more expensive than a soldered joint, in this case it was most definitely worth it. Highly recommended.

These things are amazing. It was so simple to put together I thought for sure there would be leaks - NOTHING. 20 inch crawl space, not torching or soldering. wham bam done - Thank you Shark Bites!

5Extremely handy for DIYer!Feb 19, 2010

I discovered these connectors a couple of years ago when I decided to install my own tankless water heater instead of paying someone else. I've always enjoyed doing stuff myself, but I had avoided plumbing simply because I didn't trust my connections to hold up and not leak.

Luckily, before investing in any pipe soldering equipment, I came across these SharkBite connectors. Let me say that these are absolutely the best plumbing connector you will ever use if you are a DIY'er! They are extremely easy to use and can be disassembled with a simple (and inexpensive) tool if you make a mistake. When you see the connectors in person, you will see that they are practically bomb proof; and I know that they are approved for behind-the-wall installations pretty much everywhere.

Another great thing about these is that they work with both copper as well as PEX tubing. In my case, I was replacing two traditional water heaters with a single tankless so I just ran a piece of PEX pipe between the two locations and connected it to the existing copper pipes using these SharkBite connectors. It couldn't have worked better:).

I will admit that if you are a professional, you probably own all the equipment necessary to solder pipe; so these probably aren't necessary and they probably seem expensive. For the average DIY'er, on the other hand, these are a life saver!

For anyone who likes to do things themselves around the house, I absolutely recommend using these connectors.
